The LORD said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the
face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to
birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah
found favor in the eyes of the LORD. (Genesis 6:7,8)
God was disappointed with the corruptness of man in the days
of Noah. He made the decision to destroy all flesh from the face
of the earth. Some awful consequences were about to take
place because of man's base nature. However, as we see, Noah
was the only man God could use to carry out His plan on the
earth. It has been this way for all of time. God only uses the
inhabitants of the earth to carry out His purposes on the earth.
How sad, that only one man was deemed righteous enough to
save and be saved on the whole planet.
As we look around us today, we can see that once again man
has become so corrupt that God had to send a Savior to restore
it to His original purpose. This time, He came Himself, born as
man through Jesus. But the plan has not yet been accomplished
until all has been restored. Once again, God must find righteous
people to bring about this dramatic change that must occur
before His kingdom is established once and for all. So what are
the requirements of righteousness? This chapter tells us that
Noah walked with God. I take that to mean that he had become a
trusted friend and companion of God.
So how do we become a trusted friend to God? By walking with
Him and treating Him as He deserves to be treated. I am sure
Noah had his faults just as many of us do. Remember, the whole
earth had become corrupt so he was exposed to this corruption
from every side. However, Noah found favor in the eyes of God
because he made himself available to God. Could God's plan be
so simple as making ourselves available by faith to God. To
obey, as Noah did, what God wants to accomplish on the earth?
Could it mean that all our struggling to be somebody, or to act
religious was useless and that all it takes is a real friendship
with God?
Corruption has deceived us into believing that we can never be
good enough to please God, but God is after faithfulness, and
perhaps not so much “goodness”. Of course I am not condoning
being “bad” but I am suggesting that we begin to walk closer
with God. In order to do this, we must change our opinion of
Him. We cannot walk closely with someone we feel is out to get
us. God is NOT out to get us, He is out to find faithful friends.
Once we become God's friend, we will be assured that He was
only wanting to love us from the beginning. That is when WE
will find the favor of God.
