Hunger
by Mary Justene Martin
January 23, 2012
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness:
for they shall be filled. (Matthew 5:6)
We have entered into a new era on the earth. We are leaving a
time of prosperity and the self assurance of man, and coming
into a time when men will be dependent on a different system
for their sustenance. In other words we will experience a shift in
our entire way of life. This is not doom and gloom teaching, but
a plea for people to discern the anxiety they are experiencing as
a signal that they can no longer cling to complacency in a
system that is being shaken to the core.
God has not forsaken his people but is calling them to return to
Him as their source for life. He has promised here in this
passage, that those who hunger will be filled. Many will mistake
being filled as having their needs met as they have been in the
past. However, God is going to fill those people who are hungry
for Him, and those who thirst after wisdom and knowledge of
Him. We must be prepared to change our perceptions of God, as
He reveals His original purpose for all of creation. God has
allowed man to stumble in his own futility so that he will finally
see that he is totally dependent on his Creator and has always
been. Our own attempts to be self sufficient have always ended
in futility.
How will we make it through this transition? By abandoning our
old beliefs and becoming hungry for truth. Our religion has
failed to produce a people dependent on God, who hunger to fill
their bellies, but not their spirit. In fact, many do not even realize
that they ARE spirit. Those who seek to fill their bellies, must
come to understand that we are a bottomless pit that can never
be filled. Our needs are spiritual and not natural. This is not a
popular thought, but those who have been disillusioned with the
natural things of this world, will soon know what hunger for truth
is all about. There is no magic formula for success, and no way
to be self sufficient in a time when nothing is as it has been.
Religion has failed to meet the spiritual needs of God's people
and now these religious structures have no answers. It is only
by a hunger for God, that we will be filled. There are prophets of
God that have been strategically placed all over the planet to
direct people who have been disillusioned by the status quo to
their God. The only way to find these prophets is to pray for God
to direct us by His Holy Spirit. We can no longer seek after our
own selfish desires, but we must come together with those who
will lead by His truth. These may not be found behind the doors
of some great cathedrals, or wearing grand robes. But they may
be more commonly found as John the Baptist, who was not
interested in his image, but in leading people to Jesus. God has
not forsaken His Word (which is Jesus) and He will never leave
His people without guidance. It is our place to ask, seek and
knock.
