The Prophet Of God
by Mary Justene Martin
January 9, 2012
God said to Samuel, "Listen carefully. I'm getting ready to do
something in Israel that is going to shake everyone up and get
their attention. The time has come for me to bring down on Eli's
family everything I warned him of, every last word of it. I'm letting
him know that the time's up. I'm bringing judgment on his family
for good. He knew what was going on, that his sons were
desecrating God's name and God's place, and he did nothing to
stop them. This is my sentence on the family of Eli: The evil of
Eli's family can never be wiped out by sacrifice or offering." (1
Samuel 3:11-14)
Samuel was only a boy, living in the temple with Eli. God
called Him and gave him these instructions. God had warned Eli
and He has warned us, that there is going to be a shaking. This
was not a mere fear tactic, trying to get the attention of His
people. It was a promise about to be carried out.
We are not without warning. The church of God has become
corrupt and cannot be distinguished from the world. We have
desecrated the house of God and He has raised up modern-day
prophets to warn us to repent. The problem is, people have
been deceived into believing that the prophets no longer exist.
There has never been a time when the world needs a fresh
word from God more. These prophets are people who will speak
the word of God, and confirm it to those who are hungry for
change. It is no secret, we need a change. We will not find our
change in the existing system. God is able to get His word
across to anyone who will listen and obey.
We must stop trying to get our answers from newspapers,
government, doctors, etc. God's word is alive and true. The very
nature of God is truth. We cannot go wrong by reading it daily
and praying to discover what our next step is to avoid the
enemy's plan to destroy us.
Most people fear God because they have been taught by the
world's system. This is why God sends His prophets. You would
think that these prophet's messages would be welcomed in a
world that is shaking and crumbling. But people still look to the
things they have already seen and the history of the world to try
to figure out what is going to happen. Science, history, and
reasoning are the world's way of trying to predict what is going
to happen. Imagine the clay trying to tell the potter what should
be made of it. Of course it won't work.
Many preachers are telling watered down messages that
they know the people want to hear. Samuel was not bringing a
pleasant message to Eli. The prophet of today will not be telling
you “peace and safety,” when you need to hear “turn or burn”
(my term, not God's). If you are hungry for God, and truth, the
Holy Spirit will lead you to a group of people and a prophet, who
will help you discern the word of God. It may not come from an
Ivory Tower, or some grand cathedral with stained glass
windows and hundreds of people. It may come through a young
child or an old person, but He is faithful to bring you what you
need to survive. Do not look for some high official looking
person in a three piece suit. Look around you, they too are
scrambling to look for answers. If it is truth you are seeking, it is
truth you will find. You have only to ask and have faith. Then
you MUST obey.
