The Bride
July 2000
Justene Martin

For years I've seen myself
Through someone else's eyes
A vision that's obstructed
By worldliness and lies.

I compare myself with others
But the standard isn't fair
For I can only see facades
And Jesus isn't there.

Facades are just illusions
A flimsy house of cards
Blown about by winds of doctrine
Never reaching to the heart.

But Jesus wants to peel away
The foolishness and pride
That has kept me so far from Him
And reveal what's deep inside.

There's a person hidden in there
Full of mercy, love and grace
And He wants to prepare her
To take her rightful place.

A place of holiness and honor
Walking by His side
Not just an illusion
But as His pure spotless bride.
