The Person In The Mirror
January 11, 2001
Justene Martin

There's a person in the mirror
You need to get to know
She's been waiting for attention,
And she really needs you so.

She know's a lot about you
Some things she could reveal
If you'd take the time to ask her
She'd tell you how you feel.

She's never there for very long
Because you turn your back
As soon as you have checked her out
To see how much you lack.

But she can tell you all about the times
That you choose to forget
And she knows you're not a failure
And that your not finished yet.

She's asking you to pause awhile
Before your busy day
To just reflect and speak to her,
See she was made that way.

Her only purpose is to show
The person looking back
The real true person standing there
And get her back on track.

Yes, she knows how bad you're hurting
And how you run away
Whenever anyone gets close
But she will always stay.

Just waiting there year after year
Until you get it right
She really can't go anywhere
Til you stand up and fight.

So she is waiting patiently
To tell you you're not bad
You've seen her through the other eyes
She says "Girl you've been had".
There's better ways of doing this
Than to run away in fear.
But you've got to stop and listen
To the lady in the mirror.
